In the end, the father realizes that he’ll have to give up some of his “white privilege” if he wants his family to stay together, and the happy ending comes from his willing willingness to make changes for the better.
This book is a fun read with a touching ending. I especially love the last paragraph, where the stepmom talks about her own experiences being a single mother. And it’s just as true for black families as it is for white families. The author also addresses step parenting in a way that makes it very clear that single parenting can be a successful option if you approach it correctly. Reading a step-by-step guide like “Stepmom and My Husband” is just one more tool in the arsenal of African American step moms-only successful black women should read this book and use it to create positive change in their families. In my opinion, the book can teach black mothers the same lessons that any parent could learn from reading it.
