“My Little Girl Was Taken For A Vacation” is the first of two stories in The Step Sisters book. It tells the story of thirteen-year-old Jessica and her two step sisters. Jessica was taken to live with her step sisters when her father was sent away to serve in the Korean War. She had never lived with any family before, and now she must adjust to life with her two step sisters.
Jessica must adapt to life with her new family as well as trying to maintain her own identity and not get involved with her step sisters’ life. She meets a new boy named Dan, who seems to be her new step brother. Jessica’s two step sisters tease and embarrass her, but when she starts learning about her family in the novel, she finds that she is close to all of them. When she goes on a vacation with her father, her step sisters stop teasing her, and her father notices that she is beginning to like working with small children.
The Step Sisters is filled with beautiful and inspiring true stories of people who were or are still struggling with their identity or who are trying to figure things out. It’s a great book for anyone who has ever felt like they just don’t fit in, wants to belong somewhere, or would love to learn more about themselves.
