“Not Lullaby Fucking Mother” is the third in the Lullaby series, and it’s sure to be the last. I admit that at first I wasn’t going to pick this book up, because it just seemed so fluffy and girly. However, upon reading through the plotline, I found myself actually liking the mother character a lot more than I thought I would. In fact, I would say that she’s one of the more likeable characters in this whole series.
The story starts off when a young woman named Sarah gets herself pregnant after years of trying. She goes to have an ultrasound, and it seems that everything goes well. Shortly thereafter, Sarah’s husband shows up with another woman, Sarah’s high school sweetheart, Rachel. They’re planning to get married, but Sarah isn’t happy with the marriage proposal, and so she goes back to the doctor to ask what her options are. After an initial examination, Sarah learns that she’s been diagnosed with the condition known as polycystic ovarian syndrome, which is caused by high levels of hormones in the body.
Polycystic ovaries are essentially cysts that grow on ovaries and are very common amongst women in their late twenties or early thirties. As a result, polycystic ovaries often cause all sorts of different symptoms. These include irregular menstrual cycles, acne, excessive hair growth on the face, excess body fat, and a generally unhappy attitude towards life. Because polycystic ovaries are so common, it’s relatively easy to find pills and other medication on the market that claim to stop or treat these symptoms. Not only does this book address the issue of polycystic ovaries, but it goes into detail about what women can do to avoid having them in the future, as well as offering some good tips for making sure that they don’t develop them in the first place.
