POV Visit to Sex Therapist with Stepmom. One of my friends, who is married, had an “overshare” last year with her cousin who was a stepmom. She had the hardest time deciding on whether or not she should go visit the sex therapist because it would be a new experience for her. I have been to a few stepmoms and as I have stated before if the person has a problem with their body image they are usually not going to want to go to the sex therapist.
After my friend checked into the OCD program at the local center, she was very thankful that she did because it helped her immensely. The first time she went to the therapist she was terrified, but once she was in the chair and saw the pictures on the wall of people with the same problems that she had, she felt so much better about herself. Now she is able to go to the store without feeling nervous because she knows that the therapist will not be judging her like other clients who do not have these images. Now she is able to look at a picture of herself naked from behind and feel good about the choices that she makes in her clothing. Not only is this great for her own mental state but it is also great for the stepmom because she knows she can trust her daughter to make the right decisions with her.
If you have your own family member who is a stepmom or if you have a stepmom who is in a similar situation to your loved one then you need to take advantage of the free face-to-face meetings that are available with local therapists. I guarantee you that you will not only get to see the therapist, but you will also leave the session feeling much better about yourself because you will have a chance to talk with someone who understands what you are going through and that cares about your situation. This is the most important thing because a lot of times StepMoms are really suffering because they do not understand why they are so miserable and they do not have support in their everyday lives either.
