Mom, Dad; Step moms and dads of all ages have a special connection. When my youngest son was just two weeks old, I decided to take an entrepreneurial course at the local community college in our area and came across an article about “The StepMom Debate.” As a woman I had never heard of this debate before, and even though I didn’t want to get involved I did anyway. The topic of the article in the community college brought back memories for me of my own mother’s supportive, nurturing approach to parenting. The conflict she faced over custody of her child inspired her to create an incredibly successful business that still provides some of the same services she started over forty years ago.
My stepson’s biological mom is a single mother, and even with the support of a stepmom her ability to provide for her children can be scarce. However, stepmoms do not have to choose between Dad and their children. Many stepmoms find success helping to financially support their stepchildren or helping to raise their children as best they can while doing the jobs they need to do to earn an income. The fact is that working mom can make a good living working outside the home, without having to put one parent in the hospital or in jail.
When you are a stepmom and you help raise your stepson, it is important to remember that he is your kid and his best friend. He will depend on you for all of his needs and you need to show him that you are completely committed to that responsibility. He will be learning a lot from you should treat him as such. After all, that is what being a parent is all about and if you can show your son that there is life beyond being your son’s best friend you have done a wonderful job. Sea3po maravilhosa
