‘STEPMOM’ . ‘STEPMOM’ is written by Amy Waterman and tells the story of Amy Waterman, a single mother of ten children who was separated from her husband of twenty years. He left to go study abroad, leaving her to raise her children alone. Though Amy did her best to provide for her children, her husband left her for good and never returned. This book tells the story of Amy’s search to find love again and how she found it with Richard (nicknamed Rich), an intelligent and responsible young man. Rich provided the funds necessary for their wedding, but in return, Amy’s children were entitled to one-half of their share.

Rich worked hard to provide for his family, but found it difficult to manage the household. A stepmother was often a woman who marries one of the husband’s parents in order to take care of the child (Ren). Children from the previous marriages are called her stepping-children. Amy became increasingly unhappy with Rich’s attitude and decided to move in with Rich’s friend, Lorraine. Initially, Lorraine seemed to enjoy staying with Rich and their situation seemed stable until one night when Amy came home crying because her stepmother had taken away her children to care for Rich.

Since Amy was the child bride, it was against the law for her to return to Rich and Lorraine’s house while they were living in another house. The court found in favor of Amy and declared that Rich and Lorraine’s house were ‘blessed’ and ordered them to leave. Now Amy must reconcile her stepmother’s bad behavior with what the Bible says about being ‘judge and steward’. This book is an interesting and light-hearted read about marriage, divorce and the pitfalls that come along with it.
