As a mother of a young boy, I have my hands full during his Stepson’s Homecoming week. As an adult, I’ve been involved in preparing his classmates for their school-wide return home from summer vacation. I help with homework, make sure the school carnival is a blast, and generally just hang out with the other moms to help keep them sane. But for this next stage of Stepson’s Homecoming, I want to be a part of everything.
I went shopping with Stepmom yesterday and even brought along my daughter and my mother’s boyfriend to help with some of the organizing. I know that my daughter is excited about her Stepson’s Homecoming and wants to be a part of everything. But with all the good-natured words my mom has given me, I am a bit nervous about where my daughter will fit into all this. But I know she’ll be able to find something that fits with her loving nature, her bubbly personality, and her unique interests. We found a great homecoming dress that fits our son’s interests very well, and I think he’s going to love it as much as I do once he’s at school. It’s just one of those things, like the rest of his school gear, that he will appreciate when he gets home and starts wearing it.
After all of the preparations have been done, our son’s arrival will truly make everything come together for us. He will see his step mother in a totally different way, and my daughter will have a new role as a Mom that her daughter has never met before. I will feel like a complete woman in every way because of what she’s done for me, and I think she’s a wonderful role model for other parents who are struggling with raising young children. She deserves everything that goes along with being a Mom, and I’m so grateful for the support she’s shown me throughout my own journey of wife and motherhood.
